BUILDING A FUNCTIONAl ZERO COMMUNITY
Since January 1, 2026, services are focused exclusively on residents of Indian River County as part of our commitment to addressing homelessness within our own community.
The Source is working to make Indian River County a functional zero community, where homelessness is replaced with stability, dignity, and the opportunity to build a life that lasts.

This means every individual has a clear and immediate path to shelter, services, and long-term stability, so no one is left without support.
But homelessness does not happen all at once. It is often the result of something breaking down over time, and in most cases, it begins with a catastrophic loss of family.
We see this more and more in seniors. A spouse passes. Income drops. Support systems disappear. Others are living on a fixed income with no one to turn to, or no one they feel they can burden.
Without that support system, even a small disruption can lead to homelessness.
In Indian River County, many also face barriers to housing, employment, and transportation that make it difficult to recover once they fall behind. Solving this requires more than temporary solutions. It requires a coordinated, community-based approach.
That is why community is not an add-on to our work. It is the solution.
The Source has built a model that meets individuals at every stage of need. From meals, showers, and safe sleep to structured community living and employment opportunities, each step creates a pathway toward lasting stability.
We do not measure success by how quickly someone exits but by whether they have found dignity, stability, and the freedom to choose what comes next.
Our goal is a stronger, more connected community where every individual has support, community, and a place to belong.

Homelessness does not look the same for everyone.
-
A young adult aging out of the system.
-
A couple living in their car.
-
A parent trying to keep their children safe.
-
A senior on a fixed income with nowhere left to go.

These are not categories.
These are real situations our neighbors find themselves in.
Individuals Experiencing Homelessness
At The Source, we serve individuals experiencing homelessness by meeting immediate needs while creating a path toward stability. Each person who comes through our doors is navigating a unique set of circumstances, and access to consistent support plays a critical role in taking the first steps forward.

For many, the need begins with essential services such as meals, hygiene, and a safe place to rest. These resources provide a foundation, allowing individuals to move beyond immediate concerns and begin focusing on what comes next.

Through a structured approach that continues beyond initial support, individuals are given opportunities to build stability over time. With access to guidance, resources, and consistent care, each person is able to move forward at a pace that reflects their situation and goals.
This process is designed to create lasting change, recognizing that stability is built step by step and that every individual deserves the opportunity to move forward with dignity and purpose.
Families and children
As The Source continued to serve the community, a growing need became clear. Within the local school system, there were families experiencing housing instability who did not qualify for support through other agencies, leaving them without access to the resources they needed to move forward.

These families were navigating difficult circumstances, often doing their best to remain stable while facing gaps in available support. It became evident that while services existed, there were still individuals and families who fell outside of traditional eligibility requirements.
In response, The Source expanded its efforts to include children and families through Bridging the Gap, an initiative designed to provide support where those gaps exist. This work allows us to come alongside families during critical moments, offering stability, connection, and access to resources that help create a stronger foundation moving forward.

Through Bridging the Gap, we are able to extend our reach beyond immediate services and support the well-being of entire families, recognizing that stability for children and parents is essential to long-term change within the community.
