Our History
Founded in 1995, The Source began as a small homeless outreach in Vero Beach and has grown into a comprehensive homeless services organization serving Indian River County. Today, The Source operates five locations across the county, including its primary community resource center on Commerce Avenue and its newest addition, Dignity Ranch, a 30-acre campus dedicated to long-term stability and restoration.
Through its integrated Dignity Programs, The Source provides dignity-centered, wraparound support including meals, hygiene services, case management, counseling, and referrals to benefits and community resources. Family reunification remains a key focus, helping individuals reconnect with loved ones whenever possible.
The Source is the originator of the nation’s first Dignity Buses®, providing safe, year-round emergency shelter every night of the year. Workforce development, wellness, and community engagement programs create pathways to employment, improved health, and lasting independence.

FAQ

What is a Functional Zero community? A Functional Zero community is one where homelessness is rare, brief, and quickly addressed. It means that when someone experiences homelessness, the community has the systems and resources in place to connect them to support and housing as quickly as possible. Reaching Functional Zero does not mean homelessness never happens, but it does mean that it is no longer a long-term or ongoing condition. Instead, it becomes a temporary situation that is met with immediate response, coordinated care, and clear pathways toward stability.
Are members required to participate in Bible study or be baptized? No. Participation in Bible study, prayer, or baptism is never required to receive services or support at The Source. While The Source is a Christian organization and offers opportunities for spiritual growth, these resources are entirely optional. Members are welcome to participate if they choose, but support, programs, and services are available regardless of religious involvement.
Do you serve individuals from outside of Indian River County? As of January 1, 2026, services are focused on individuals and families within Indian River County. This allows us to concentrate our resources and efforts on addressing homelessness within our local community. Our goal is to work toward eliminating homelessness in Indian River County by providing consistent support and coordinated care to those who live here.
