The Source Participates in Annual Freedom 5K Run and Walk
A combined twenty-eight staff and members of The Source for the poor and the homeless showed up with their walking shoes on to participate in the annual Freedom Run and Walk, presented by The Substance Awareness Center of Indian River County. The group from The Source, along with nearly 200 other participants enjoyed cooler temperatures on Saturday morning, October 1 when the whistle blew to begin the annual Freedom 5K Run and Walk from South Beach Park in Vero Beach.
The Freedom 5K raises funds and awareness regarding the prevention and treatment of substance use and behavioral health disorders. It celebrates the freedom individuals and families achieve through recovery from substance use disorders. They ask the runners to think about who or what they run for because we all need freedom from something in our lives. Proceeds support programs, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay, aimed at reducing the impact of substance misuse and behavioral health disorders through prevention, education, treatment and recovery support.
