Sylvia’s harrowing yet hopeful story
As Mother’s Day nears, I’m compelled to share Sylvia’s harrowing yet hopeful story from our community at The Source. At just seven years old, Sylvia was nearly killed in a fire set deliberately by her mother. In this terrifying moment, her brother heroically shielded her, sacrificing his life to save hers. This tragic event left Sylvia with life-altering burns covering 70% of her body and deep emotional wounds that lingered for years.
Despite these immense challenges, Sylvia found a new beginning at The Source. With support and perseverance, she earned a certificate from the American Hotel and Lodging Institute proving to herself that she is all of the things she prays to be. Today, Sylvia is a beloved figure at our center, where she oversees our front desk during the evening shift. Her warmth and resilience have made her a motherly figure and a stabilizing force for many who come through our doors.
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Sylvia’s transformation and the motherly love she extends to our community. By supporting The Source, you help us provide the lifeline that many like Sylvia desperately need.
Please consider making a special Mother’s Day donation to help us continue our work. Your generosity can change lives.
