Vero's newest upscale thrift store opens to benefit The Source

Dozens crowded onto the corner of 12th Street and Old Dixie Highway in Vero Beach yesterday for the grand opening celebration of the Heaven Sent Thrift Shoppe. Tom King, President and Executive Director of The Source, lead the afternoon’s affair. Ms. Alma Lee Loy, Mayor Tom White, Pastor Greg Sempsrott and Dr. Grant Powell assisted with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Gaye King, Estelle Smith and Kathie Cain, proud members of the thrift store’s steering committee, were also in attendance.

“How fitting it is that this business, which is for clothing the body and caring for the home, should be to the benefit of one whose purpose is to clothe the inner soul and care for the poor,” said Ms. Alma Lee Loy during her opening comments.

The ceremony concluded with flashing scissors, cheering voices, and the popping of confetti cannons. A reception followed à la a delightful afternoon tea.

Heaven Sent Thrift Shoppe is staffed by volunteers and managed by Estelle Smith. It is located at 1185 Old Dixie Highway and is open Tuesday through Saturday. Revenue from the thrift store directly benefits The Source, which serves Indian River County as a Christian outreach and resource center for people who are homeless or nearly homeless.
