Despite disbandment, Micco Fire Department Donates
August 27, 2010
After 50 years of committed service, the Micco Fire Department is being disband due to not enough funding and volunteers to keep operations running. When speaking with Deputy Chief Jones, he said, "People want to work with the fire department, but once they find out the required enhanced training for new recruits is between 400-500 hours, they weigh that against their family and other things and it doesn't work out."
Deputy Chief Harry Jones and Firefighter Harry Peek with the Micco Fire Department visited The Source today. Although they are closing, they paid their bills and gave The Source the remaining monies as a donation. "We appreciate what you do for our community. Our families appreciate you independently," said Jones.
"Hopefully you guys can stay afloat, even though we may not be able to," Jones added.
