His Prayers Have Moved More Than Mountains

February 2007

Eugene is 43 years old and developmentally disabled.  Despite his mental challenges, he is quite sharp, physically strong, and the most dependable person I know.  He has been volunteering at The Source for years.  He is a true prayer warrior, and a real asset to the ministry.

Eugene had to make a change in his living situation recently and needed help.  A friend of The Source took him in for a couple of weeks while we worked on finding him a suitable room to rent.  We paired him with the Scott family, also featured here on the website.  Neither has been able to afford housing on their own, but together they were able to lease a rental house by sharing expenses.

I talked with Eugene just before he moved in to the new house.  He had lots to share about what The Source has meant to him.

In His Own Words

“All I can say is, The Source has helped me a lot.  Cause I got Christian friends, and I got Bible study every morning.  I like the people.  They been real nice to me.  I can go out there and talk to them and they say hello, shake your hand, and hug your neck and everything.  And I like Gaye and Tom.  I love both of them for letting me come into The Source.  If I didn’t have The Source, I wouldn’t have nothin’.  I would be out there on the street.  And I like helpin’ them with the showers and cookin’ and stuff.  It’s fun!”

Since the move, friends of The Source have blessed Eugene with several housewarming gifts to help him get settled in: a full-size bed, bed linens, nine-drawer dresser, shower curtains, bathroom set (he wanted an ocean scene with fish,) alarm clock, and a small television.  It is truly beautiful to see the family of Christ come together to help a brother in need.  Eugene is most grateful.

Housing and the Disabled

Any change in housing status can be devastating to the disabled person who must survive on a fixed income.  The Source is an active member of the Attainable Housing Coalition, working to secure affordable housing options for every member of this community.
