"I know what it's like to go hungry, to feel hopeless."
Carol is a single mother of four who lost everything in the 2004 hurricanes. Her family spent months living between motel rooms before finally being placed into a tiny FEMA trailer. Lacking in skills and education, Carol found herself stuck in a desperate situation and struggled every month to keep her head above water. The combination of poverty, displacement, and single parenthood took its toll on Carol. By the time she showed up at The Source, she was stressed out, destitute, and ready to give up.
But God had a better future planned for her, and she came to believe that with the help of the counselors here at The Source.
Now, at 32 years old, she has earned her high school diploma. She has also received her medical lab technician certification, and she has landed a job as a nursing assistant in home health aid. She is working toward her dream of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The Source gave me hope
"The thing I learned from The Source is, there is hope. There are times when you want to give up, but the counselors here, they help you to push forward. They give comfort, strength. They help you believe in yourself. There are still good people in this world.
"The Source helps me with my kids, too. And for the last two years, I got to go shopping with the families at Christmas.
"Best of all, The Source helped me rebuild my home. They provided the materials and the manpower. They connected me with a church that helped give what they couldn't [First Church of God, 40 Days of Purpose team.] I just don't know how I could have made it without all your help.
"Now I have a good job and a great future. I know I can do it!"
